Footnoted world headquarters recently underwent a temporary relocation moving from Peekskill to Chicago. And, because the brain behind footnoted is such a critical part of the team, Kumara’s care and comfort were a key factor as we searched for a place to live. It’s one of the primary reasons that we moved into an apartment near this new dog park.

But, according to this exhibit to the 10-Q filed by Foster Wheeler (FWLT) on Thursday, there’s an executive who thinks more about his dog than even we do, hard as that is to believe. There in the contract with newly appointed Foster Wheeler’s United Kingdom CEO W. Troy Roder, is this clause about the care and handling of Roder’s family pet, which we’re assuming is a fellow Canine American:

Pet Relocation: Mobilization and demobilization will be provided by the company. Executive will be reimbursed for all reasonable fees incurred in relation to immunization and vaccinations for family pet, plus any kenneling costs involved with the assignment.

As pet lovers, we don’t mean to begrudge Mr. Roder the very best for his animal companion. But getting that care spelled out in an employment contract — by lawyers who probably charge at least $500 an hour — seems a bit ridiculous. So we went looking for other examples where an employment contract has a clause about pet care and essentially came up empty, other than at Foster Wheeler, which seems to provide this perk as a matter of course. Several other companies, including Allergan (AGN) note in their filings that the employee is responsible for any kenneling costs, unless the dog is a qualified service dog.

Then again, perhaps this is a clever attempt to score points with the various animal rights groups.
