On the way to the altar…

February 20, 2004

Although the mega-merger between BankOne (ONE) and JP Morgan Chase (JPM) will still take several more months to complete, both companies filed their 10-Ks on Wednesday much earlier than they did last year. Indeed, JPM filed its K a full month earlier this year. Both reports are also a lot bulkier than last year’s model. BankOne’s is about 27% bigger, mostly due to a 25% increase in the pages devoted to footnotes. JPMorgan’s K is physically larger — at 257 pages — but is only about 12% heftier than last years. But with 42 pages of footnotes, up from 36 in 2002, that’s still a lot for an investor to leaf through.
