Invest for kids in Chicago…

Even though we’re in the midst of filings season, we’re taking a break from our usual trawl through the filings to talk about — ok, plug — an event next Wednesday in Chicago that benefits a good cause: Invest for Kids, which benefits seven different groups that focus exclusively on providing services and programs to children in Chicagoland. We took a special interest in this event because I’m now living in Chicago, at least temporarily, to handle some integration issues with Morningstar that will make footnoted a better site in the not-too-distant future.

The conference is modeled after the Ira Sohn Conference in New York. Top hedge fund managers, including Bill Ackman (pictured to the left) of Pershing Square and Meredith Whitney, neither of whom are shy about making big, bold calls. Other speakers include Sam Zell and John W. Rogers of Ariel.

There’s more information about the speakers here. Tickets cost $1,000 a pop, which compared with other for-profit investment conferences with a similar speaker line-up, seems like quite a bargain.

I hope that you’ll consider supporting the event. Now that I’m living here, I plan to attend too.
